Rachel Parris, the BAFTA-nominated comedian and queen of improv is back! Coming to Glasgow’s Oran Mor for one night only on the 7th April 2022.

Before she became famous for her fast-talking persona, Rachel Parris grew up in Leicester. She was a fan of Reeves & Mortimer and Victoria Wood. When she was 15 years old, she co-wrote a Famous Five parody play called Five On Mystery Bent

Parris attended Oxford University, graduating with a degree in music. Afterward she taught piano, wrote catchy spoof songs and worked in a cocktail bar. All before co-founding the improvisation group Austentatious in 2011. Each performance showcases the quirky troupe in a brand new “lost” Jane Austen work created merely from a title suggested by an audience member. In addition to London residencies, Parris has toured the country numerous times with the Chortle Award-winning show.

When her career began

Her comedy career began to take off in 2014. She was named to The Independent’s One To Watch list.

In 2016, Parris’ compelling and candid show Best Laid Plans, about turning 30 and living through a difficult breakup, was critically acclaimed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. At the same time, she began to talk about and support charities tackling the stigma around mental health.

Parris debuted her show Keynote at Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2017. She then toured the UK with it until spring 2018. Later, she headed out that autumn with another new show – It’s Fun To Pretend.

In 2017, she also joined the satirical TV series The Mash Report presented by Nish KumarSeveral of her weekly segments on hot topics have gone viral. Including the ones about the proper way to apologise. As well as how not to sexually harass someone. Not to mention her dissection of Piers Morgan’s interview with US president Donald Trump. In 2019, Parris received a BAFTA nomination for Best Entertainment Performance for her role on The Mash Report.

Over the years Parris has appeared on The IT Crowd, Plebs and Murder In Successville. As well as on comedy and panel shows like Mock The Week, Live At The Apollo and QI. Not forgetting Thronecast, examining episodes of Game Of Thrones.

During 2020, she and her husband, fellow comedian Marcus Brigstocke, became online sensations after posting lockdown lip-synching videos to music by Celine Dion, Wilson Phillips, Huey Lewis, Jarvis Cocker and more – plus the pair launched a weekly Tuesday Night Club livestream.

In early 2021, Parris announced the UK tour of her new stand-up show All Change Please was rescheduled to autumn and winter 2021.
