Laura Pergolizzi Ruffo, known professionally as LP, is an American singer-songwriter. He who has worked with everyone from Cher to Rihanna. As well as having a successful career as a solo artist in their own right.

Raised on the sounds of Joni Mitchell, Jeff Buckley and The Doors. He took inspiration from their favourite artists before moving to California to write and release their own music in 2001. Heart-Shaped Scar was the first release from the artist and was produced by David Lowery. However, it was with their second album, Suburban Sprawl & Alcohol, released in 2004 that LP really started to make an impact. The track Wasted from the album was even used as the theme song on two seasons of the Nickelodeon teen drama South Of Nowhere.

By 2006, there was somewhat of a bidding war amongst record labels to sign him. With the artist eventually putting their name on the dotted line with L.A. Reid’s Island Def Jam Music Group. However, after a year, LP left the label due to artistic differences. He went on to sign with SoBe Entertainment in 2007.

Working with other artists

LP began working with other artists to write new music. Cher, Leona Lewis, Rihanna and Christina Aguilera are among those who enlisted the help of LP. Songs like Rihanna’s Cheers (Drink To That), Rita Ora’s Shine Ya Light and Celine Dion’s Change My Mind all credit LP as a co-writer.

In 2011, LP signed a deal with Warner Bros. Records and a year later, they released their debut EP, Into The Wild: Live At EastWest Studios. The record resulted in LP heading out on tour, playing festivals like SXSW, Lollapalooza and at London’s Hyde Park.

Two years later, LP released their first full-length album Forever For Now. By 2016, they released their fourth studio album, Lost On You, which included a track of the same name that proved a huge success with fans and critics alike.

The song Muddy Waters from the same album also drew a lot of new ears to LP’s work as it appeared on the season four finale of Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black, the trailer for NBC’s Shades Of Blue and the season finale of Starz’s Power.

Two years later, the fifth LP album, Heart To Mouth, was released and became internationally successful with songs like Girls Go Wild and Recovery

LP returned in 2021 with a string of singles including The One That You Love and How Low Can You Go in the lead up to the release of their sixth full-length record, Churches. LP also announced that they would be heading on tour in 2022, playing a number of UK dates in January.
