Celine Dion, One of the world’s most glorious voices returns with her re-scheduled Courage Tour. This includes two days at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro on 13th and 14th of April 2024.

The vocal powerhouse, French-Canadian singer Celine Dion is an internationally acclaimed pop star. She’s also one of the most successful artists in pop music history.

Born in Charlemagne, Quebec, Dion wanted to be a performer since she was a child. With the help of her manager, the late René Angélil, she was a star at the age of 18. By that time, Dion had released nine albums and received two Félix Awards. Furthermore, she had won the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest while representing Switzerland with Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi.

Where the fame began

Shortly after learning to speak English, she broke through in the US and other international markets. Her 1991 duet with Peabo Bryson on the title track for Disney’s animated film Beauty And The Beast was a huge hit. This won a Grammy for Best Pop Performance By A Duo and a Juno for Single Of The Year. In 1992, Dion unveiled the album Unison, which was certified gold in the UK and France, platinum in the US and seven times platinum in Canada.

In addition to three French language albums, five more English language records followed that decade: 1992’s Celine Dion, 1993’s The Colour Of My Love, 1996’s Falling Into You, 1997’s Let’s Talk About Love and 1998’s These Are Special Times. They boasted a slew of top 10 charting hits from Think Twice and The Power Of Love to Because You Love Me and It’s All Coming Back To Me Now. However, no track was bigger than 1997’s My Heart Will Go On from the blockbuster film Titanic starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Not only did it dominate at the 1999 Grammys, winning four awards including Song Of The Year. It remains one of the biggest selling singles of all time.

Fame in the 00’s

By the beginning of the ’00s, Dion had become a megastar – both as a music artist and a fashion diva. Following the release of the compilation album All the Way… A Decade Of Song, she decided to take a break from the spotlight. But in 2002, she returned with the record A New Day Has Come, revealing that the title song was in honour of her first child. Her album One Heart arrived in 2003, trailed soon after by Miracle.

With a desire to spend less time on the road and more time at home with her family. In 2003 Dion also embarked on the first of several multi-year contracts with Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. A 4,000-seat venue called The Colosseum was custom built to house A New Day…, her concert extravaganza. That headlining residency ran through 2007. This shaped the future of entertainment in Sin City and paving the way for countless stars.

Moving into 2010

Dion’s 10th English language album Taking Chances came out in 2007 and featured collaborations with a variety of pop, rock and R&B luminaries including Linda Perry, Eurythmics’ David Stewart, Ne-Yo and many more. She launched the year-long Taking Chances World Tour in 2008, with a documentary film about it entitled Celine: Through The Eyes Of The World arriving in 2010.

In early 2011, Dion returned to Caesars Place with her second concert residency simply called Celine that would run through June 2019.

The album Loved Me Back To Life arrived in 2013, and Dion was presented with Billboard’s lifetime achievement Icon Award in 2016. She remixed her single Ashes for the film Deadpool 2 in 2018 and landed at the top of the US dance club charts.

In 2019, Dion released Courage, her first English language album in six years, and delivered a stellar performance in London as part of BST Hyde Park that summer. In February 2021, she announced her Courage World Tour was postponed. It would come to the UK in May and June 2022.
