Jamiroquai back on the road for the first time in 5 years, with one date set in Glasgow’s SECC!

Jamiroquai were formed in the early 1990’s with lead singer Jay Kay at the forefront after an unsuccessful audition for the Brand New Heavies.

The bands first single, ‘When You Gonna Learn’, was released in 1992, which was so successful that Kay signed an eight-album record deal with Sony BMG on the back of it.  The first Sony album, ‘Emergency on Planet Earth’ was released in 1993, and was followed in 1994 by ‘The Return of the Space Cowboy’ from which the lead single ‘Space Cowboy’ was particularly popular.

While Jamiroquai was growing in popularity in the UK, Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Japan, they remained relatively unknown to US and other international audiences.  The band’s international breakthrough came with their third album, ‘Travelling Without Moving’ which was released in 1996.  This album yielded two big hits, ‘Virtual Insanity’ and ‘Cosmic Girl’.

The success of ‘Virtual Insanity’ was due in part to its video, directed by Jonathan Glazer and featuring Kay’s dance moves and some physics-defying images.  At the 1997 MTV Video Music Awards, the creative music video for ‘Virtual Insanity’ won four awards including Best Video, Best Special Effects, Best Cinematography and Breakthrough Video.

Following the huge international success of their 7th album ‘Rock Dust Light Star’, which this month charted in more than 20 countries (more than any other UK act currently), Jamiroquai announce their first UK tour in over five years for next April and the release of a new single entitled ‘Lifeline’ on January 23rd 2011.
