Hamleys have opened their second store in the UK, in Glasgow’s St Enoch Centre shopping precinct.

The store was opened yesterday by chief executive Gudjon Reynisson, and Claude Dion of centre owners Ivanhoe Cambridge.

Shoppers were greeted at the store entrance by a red double-decker bus filled with teddy bears and around 8000 toys and games. Everything inside the store is customised to the city of Glasgow; the Hamleys Bear, for example, has been kitted out with a red mac, just in case it rains! And above all the shelves, there is a cartoon mural of the Glasgow city skyline, with the Glasgow Science Centre and Kelvingrove Museum.

Hamleys is one of the worlds largest toy stores, and it’s flagship store is on Regent St, in London. They do have other major stores in Dublin, Dubai and Amman, but until now had only 1 in the UK. Hamleys in the St Enoch Centre is the first flagship UK store outside of London. Hamleys closed it’s retail outlet inside Frasers, Buchanan St, a few months ago and now has a much bigger space, incorporating most of the top floor of the redeveloped St Enoch Centre.

Chief executive Gudjon Reynisson said:

“Glasgow was an obvious choice, being the second biggest retail city outside of London… We look forward to entertaining the people of Glasgow with the theatre of Hamleys”.

Hamleys is more of an experience than just a shop.   They have demonstrators throughout their stores, and children can go in just to play with the toys. Obviously it’s a bonus for Hamleys if their parents decide to buy them a toy…

  1. Thought the shop in Glasgow was amazing. Could have spent the day there with my grandson as it was such a fun experience. There was such a buzz about the shop and the huge stuffed animals were fabulous. The only downside was when I returned to Fife and discovered I had been overcharged £4 on my credit card!

It had cost my husband, myself and grandson £25 on bus fares to go to Glasgow for the day, which we did not grudge as the shop was better than I could have hoped for.I have been unable to get an answer from customer services ,nor can I find a telephone number for the shop.
