Scottish Opera are bringing one of the world’s favourite operas, Carmen, to Glasgow’s Theatre Royal this October!

A hot-blooded tale of seduction and obsession, a host of colourful characters, and a fizzing score – this is Carmen as it should be. And it will be playing at Glasgow’s Theatre Royal from the 7th until the 17th of October 2015.

Director Benjamin Davis revives Patrice Caurier and Moshe Leiser’s much-loved 1999 production, evoking the heat and intensity of Seville, the perfect setting for one of the most famous love triangles in operatic history to unfold.

When Don José, a young soldier, meets the sensual and high-spirited Carmen, thoughts of marrying his childhood sweetheart are driven from his mind. But Don José is not the only one to fall for Carmen’s charms, and when Carmen chooses another man, she sets in motion a shocking and unmissable showdown at the bullfighting arena.

Carmen is one of the world’s favourite operas, and with good reason – Bizet’s stylish score perfectly captures the passion and suffering of his characters. From the sultry Habanera to the rousing Toreador’s Song, his brilliant melodies pull the audience into the action as Carmen’s journey reaches its tragic conclusion.

Justina Gringyte (winner of a 2015 International Opera Award) sings Carmen, rising star Noah Stewart is Don José, and baritone Roland Wood is Escamillo. David Parry conducts.
