Following an acclaimed West End run, Democracy by Michael Frayn, will play at Glasgow’s Theatre Royal this autumn!

Rapture Theatre in association with the MacRobert presents, from the writer of smash hit comedy Noises Off, Democracy by Michael Frayn, playing at Glasgow’s Theatre Royal from September 6th until September 10th 2016.

Following an acclaimed West End run, Michael Frayn’s award–winning play premieres in Scotland, in an exciting new production from Rapture Theatre – Scotland’s leading touring theatre company.

Democracy combines the precision and fascination of a John Le Carre (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and The Night Manager) thriller, with the energy and dynamism of The West Wing.

It’s 1969, in West Germany, and charismatic Willy Brandt has been elected Chancellor. When Brandt “dares more democracy”, his own party conspires, plots and tries to destroy him.

As his enemies tighten the noose around his neck, Brandt believes the only man he can truly trust, is Gunter Guillaume: his devoted personal assistant. But in the world of political intrigue, espionage and betrayal, is anyone to be trusted….

Shakespearean in scale, with a cast of ten, Democracy will resonate in the modern world of media spin and political intrigue.

Witty, thought provoking and entertaining Democracy is a compelling and unmissable night at the theatre!
