Chris Young is the American country singer-songwriter and Season 4 winner of Nashville Star. He is coming to Glasgow’s O2 Academy on 25th August 2022.

Chris Young has been a part of the Nashville music scene since he was in high school. This was long before he became one of America’s most successful country music stars. Performing in clubs around the area, he kept up with his music throughout college. Playing around 150 live shows a year. However, it wasn’t until 2006 that his star really took off. This was when Young appeared on the US reality show Nashville Star. An American Idol style competition that aimed to find the next big country singer. Young was the season four winner, scoring a contract with RCA Records Nashville that would launch his career.

His debut single

He wasted no time, releasing his debut single ‘Drinkin’ Me Lonely’ later that year, followed by his self-titled debut album. Both ‘Drinkin’ Me Lonely’ and the album’s second single, ‘You’re Gonna Love Me’, appeared on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Single ‘Voices’ arrived in 2008, becoming his first track to crack the Top 40. It preceded his second album, The Man I Want to Be. The album’s subsequent singles, ‘Gettin’ You Home (The Black Dress Song)’ and ‘The Man I Want to Be’ both went to number one. As well as the re-release of ‘Voices’. ‘Gettin’ You Home’ also earned Young a Grammy nomination for Best Male Vocal Performance.

Young’s third album, Neon, was released in 2011 and yielded his first platinum selling single, ‘Tomorrow’. Young continued to see success with his singles across his fourth and fifth albums. Released in 2013 and 2015 respectively, with his tracks consistently charting high. In 2016 he released a Christmas album entitled It Must Be Christmas. This was before he promptly got to work on his sixth studio album, Losing Sleep. The album, which incorporated some pop elements into Young’s established country sound. It was released in late 2017 and debuted at No.1 on the Country Albums chart.

In 2017, Young was honoured with one of country music’s greatest achievements when he was invited to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry. As is tradition, his invite came from an existing member – namely country legend Vince Gill.

Young’s seventh studio album, Famous Friends, arrived in 2021, with a tour of the same name being announced in March 2022.
