Joey McKneely’s vibrant stage production of the classic dance musical West Side Story returns to the King’s Theatre in Glasgow after international sell-out success.

With ground breaking choreography by the legendary Jerome Robbins, book by Arthur Laurents, an unforgettable score by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, West Side Story changed the face of musical theatre for ever.

Leading the talented new cast is Katie Hall as Maria and Louis Maskell as her star-crossed lover Tony.

Katie Hall was originally a boot camp contestant for the BBC’s search for Nancy in “I’d Do Anything” after leaving the competition, she was immediately cast by Andrew Lloyd Webber to cover Christine in The Phantom of the Opera and more recently Cosette in Les Miserables at the Queen’s Theatre in the West End.

Djalenga Scott brings her energy and experience from Chicago, Flashdance and The Rocky Horror Show to play the pivotal role of Anita.  In the rival gang, Jack Wilcox takes on the ill-fated character of Riff, Tony’s best friend and co-founder of the Jets.

West Side Story is the modernization of the tragic conflicts in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, it was first conceived by the enterprising dancer, choreographer and director Jerome Robbins. He transformed the original family feud into a teenage gang war in a slum district of New York, it’s packed with unforgettable songs including Maria, Tonight, Somewhere, America and I Feel Pretty, West Side Story has been described as ‘one of the towering achievements of musical theatre of the last century.
