The Great Scottish Run

7th September 2008

On the 7th of September 2008, thousands of runners will take to the streets of Glasgow to take part in the Great Scottish Run.  Last years run saw almost 18,000 runners taking part in the Great Scottish Run, many of whom ran for charity.

Two events will occur on the 7th September: the 10k run which starts at 9am, and the half marathon which starts are 10.30am.  Both start at George Square and head down to the SECC, then over the Kingston Bridge.  After the Kingston Bridge, the courses separate, and the half marathon heads over to Bellahouston Park, then to Pollok Country Park and then back to Glasgow Green where both runs end.  Routes are shown on the map below.

If you would like to run you can find registration and entry information on the Great Scottish Run website.  Online entries will be accepted up until the 2nd of September.  After that you can enter in person on the 4th, 5th and 6th of September at the Jury’s Inn on Jamaica Street.  You CANNOT register on race day though.

Running for a charity?
If you would like to run for charity but are having trouble deciding which to run for, there are more than 50 charities listed on the Great Scottish Run website.  I will be running the 10k for Alzheimer Scotland.

Junior run
There is also a junior run which takes place the day before (on the 6th of September).  This event is a 3k run through Glasgow Green, and is for kids aged between 9-17.  For more information visit the Junior Great Scottish Run website.

Because of the run, there will be quite a few road closures and diversions on race day.  For full information about these, either visit the Great Scottish Run website.
