Sam Smith is the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter with a powerful voice, and he is back with his latest tour: Gloria. Coming to Glasgow’s OVO Hydro on 22nd April 2023.

Sam Smith is a natural singer. Drawn to soulful sounds and musical theatre. Sam received vocal lessons from a young age and joined various jazz bands as well as Bishop’s Stortford Junior Operatics and the Cantate Youth Choir as a teenager.

By the age of 18, Smith moved to London but struggled for a couple of years before connecting with singer-turned-music manager Elvin Smith and long-time collaborator Jimmy Napes. With them, the opportunity arose to record the 2012 hit ‘Latch’ with house duo Disclosure.

Smith’s first solo single, Lay Me Down, came out in 2013. This was followed by two more No.1s, ‘Money On My Mind’ and the tender ballad ‘Stay With Me’. The overwhelming success of these singles combined with 2014’s debut album The Lonely Hour propelled Smith to stardom. At the 2015 Grammy Awards, the took home three huge awards: Best New Artist, Song Of The Year and Record Of The Year.

Things got even hotter for them in 2015 thanks to a world tour as well as creating the theme song for the 24th James Bond film Spectre. Composed with Napes, ‘Writing’s On The Wall’ became the first 007 theme to reach No.1 in the UK upon release. It also scored the pair numerous award nominations including an Oscar trophy for Best Original Song.

Later that year, they took a break from music to undergo surgery for a small haemorrhage on their vocal cords. Returning with a voice that was stronger than ever, Smith released their second album, The Thrill Of It All, in 2017. Like the debut, it became a No.1-charting, multi platinum-selling record in the UK, US and all around the world.

The years that followed saw Smith embark on another world tour. As well as deliver notable collaborations such as 2018’s Promises with Calvin Harris. As well as 2019’s global hit Dancing With A Stranger with Normani.

In 2020, they released a new track each season, including ‘To Die For’ on Valentine’s Day. As well as ‘I’m Ready’ with Demi Lovato. In early spring and ‘My Oasis’ with inimitable Nigerian singer Burna Boy during the summer. In September, Sam not only revealed the single Diamonds, but also their third record, Love Goes, released in October 2020.

“The last two years have been the most experimental time of my life. Personally but also musically,” said Smith on their social media channels. “Every time I went into the studio I promised myself I would shoot for the stars and have no limitations. The result has been so magical and so therapeutic and FUN.”

For the album, Smith once again worked with collaborators including Napes, Steve Mac (Ed Sheeran, Celine Dion). As well as Shellback/MXM (P!nk, Britney Spears), Labrinth and Stargate. Not forgetting Guy Lawrence (Disclosure) to create songs that each tell a different story.

To celebrate its release, Sam Smith announced an exclusive live-stream concert from Abbey Road Studios on 30 October 2020 featuring world premier performances of new music My Oasis, Kids Again and Love Goes.
