Location:  Glasgow Green

Following two sell-out years, Retrofest has further stretched its spandex offerings as it returns for 2009 with a line-up that spans over three decades in music.

The festival will take place on Glasgow Green on the 28th, 29th and 30th of August and last year the event attracted thousands of people over the weekend.

This year will see superstars from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s gracing Glasgow Green.  The line-up on the main stage is very retro this year; Friday will see Heaven 17, A Flock of Seagulls and Jaki Graham.  Saturday’s line-up includes Gloria Gaynor, Sister Sledge, Rick Astley, Right Said Fred, East 17 and The Bay City Rollers.  Sunday’s line-up is sure to be Level 42, Midge Ure, Average White Band and Nik Kershaw.

The festival village houses the 80’s disco, headphone disco, the Club Tropicana beach (where you can make sandcastles, play swingball or beat your friends at giant connect 4) and cocktail bar, the high school arena, funfair, Ritz cinema showing movies from the 80’s, karaoke tent, a space hopper racetrack, pyshic & meditation area plus the usual Nosh and great beer!

It’s all about Opal Fruits not Starbursts; Sally James not Cat Deeley; Black Jacks not Banana Mojos;  Blakes 7 not X-Men; Rainbow not Balamory; Samantha Fox not Jordan; Smash Hits not Mojo; Jackie Magazine not Bliss.  Actually, it’s about everything you either loved or hated when you were a teenager in the 70’s, 80’s or early 90’s.

It really is the best party of the year, and you are invited!

Camping

Camping facilities will be available over the weekend.  Quiet ‘family’ camping areas will be provided, as will regular camping areas for those who don’t feel the need to sleep.  You can bring your own tent, or book a pre-pitched and fully equipped tent for 2, 4 or 6 people.  More details on pre-pitched tents can be found on the Tangerine Fields website.

Getting there

Getting to Glasgow is easy.  It’s a big place.  If you need information on how to get to Glasgow visit our very own Glasgowvant travel guide.

When you arrive in Glasgow, getting to the Retrofest site is also pretty easy.  Glasgow Green is situated very centrally, within walking distance (a short distance) of the centre of Glasgow.  Shuttle bus services will be leaving every 15 minutes from George Square (right in the heart of the city) to the festival.  It is unlikely that parking will be available near to Glasgow Green, so drivers will need to plan ahead to find somewhere else to park.
