Piping Live! is a week long piping event that makes Glasgow the centre of the world stage for piping brilliance. It’s exciting and challenging, traditional and contemporary and very much alive.
You’ll discover the experimental energy of today’s newest talent to the awesome accomplishment of established musicians from across the globe. There is something going on morning, noon and night: from workshops to masterclasses, and from ceilidhs to concerts and street performances. As part of Piping Live, the World Pipe Band Championships will also take place on the 15th of August in Glasgow Green.
This year’s festival line-up has not yet been announced, but last year saw reknowned pipers such as Pipe Major Gordon Walker, Willie McCallum, Alasdair Gillies and Jack Lee, bands including Ecletnica Pagus, Pipedown and the wonderful Capercaillie, alongside featured artists such as Neil Johnstone and Craig Ross.
The venues are as varied as the performers, ranging from open-air performances in Glasgow Green and George Square, to those in the Piping College and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
It’s fast, fun, moving, informative, entertaining, exhilarating – it’s Piping Live!
