Although not strictly in Glasgow, the Paisley Christmas lights switch on is a great Christmas event that is just a short 10 minute train ride away from Glasgow city centre.

Paisley Christmas Lights Switch-on promises to be a great event, with not one, but two headline acts performing, UK hip-hop star, Tinchy Stryder and Dundee rockers, The View, will be on hand to kick of the celebrations alongside boyband Mr. Meanor, female pop sensation Alexa, the Clyde 1 Roadshow DJs, and Santa Claus with his reindeer.

Getting there: You can catch a train every 10 minutes or so leaving from Glasgow Central to Paisley Gilmour Street. The journey can take as little as 9 minutes depending on what train you get and will cost an adult just £3.80 for the return journey and you get up to two kids free on the train for each paying adult, So Mum, Dad and 4 kids can get to Paisley and back for just £7.60 – Book your train tickets online.

Before the big finale there is a terrific line-up throughout the day. Starting with the traditional reindeer parade at 12 noon from Gilmour Street, which this year will be led by Santa Claus himself!

On the main stage in Gauze Street the Clyde 1 Roadshow team with DJs Gina McKie, Romeo and Gavin Pearson will be ready to kick-off the live entertainment from 1pm. They’ll introduce all the top performers, as well as playing music and offering some great giveaways and prizes throughout the afternoon.

Renfrewshire’s Provost Anne Hall will hit the Big Red Christmas Lights Switch On button at 6pm.

  • 4.30pm – Tinchy Stryder
