Formed in 2001, the band consists of lead vocalist Gerard Way, guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Iero, and bassist Mikey Way and have a diverse sound incorporating elements of gothic rock, punk, heavy metal, glam rock, and progressive rock.

Shortly after forming, the band signed to Eyeball Records and released their debut album ‘I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love’ in 2002.  The album was recorded just 3 months after the formation of the band.  They signed with Reprise Records the next year and began work on their follow up album, ‘Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge’ which was released in 2004; the album was a commercial success, and went platinum  in just over a year.

In 2005 they featured on the first ever Taste of Chaos tour, and were the supporting act for Green Day’s American Idiot tour the same year.  The band eclipsed their previous success with their 2006 concept album, ‘The Black Parade’, which gained generally favourable reviews among music critics and led to a massive 132 date world tour.

Their fourth studio album, ‘Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys’, was released in November 2010, just a few weeks after The World Contamination Tour was announced for 2011.
