The outrageous newly crowned Queen of Pop, Lady Gaga, will be playing in Glasgow’s SECC for one night only in March.
Honing her songwriting and performing skills in the clubs of New York’s Lower East Side, Lady Gaga was signed to Interscope Records on the recommendation of R& B star Akon, an artist that Gaga had been writing songs for.
Lady Gaga soon exploded on to the scene with her debut album, The Fame, released in August 2008 which was both a critical and commercial success. In addition to receiving generally positive reviews, it went to number one in four countries, and topped the Billboard Top Electronic Albums chart in the United States.
The album’s first two singles, ‘Just Dance’ and ‘Poker Face’, have become international number-one hits, and the former was nominated for Best Dance Recording at the 51st Grammy Awards.
This surge of success is yet to relent and Lady Gaga has to date sold a mind blowing four million copies of The Fame and 20 million digital singles.
Lady Gaga’s explosion from seeming obscurity, great pop songs and taste for the outrageous have caused the young star to be compared to Queen of Pop: Madonna, although Gaga has been vocal in her style being inspired by the likes of glam rock stars like David Bowie and Queen.
In 2009, after having opened for Take That in London’s O2 Arena, New Kids on the Block and the Pussycat Dolls, Gaga embarked on her first headlining tour, ‘The Fame Ball Tour’.
The Monster Ball Tour will undoubtedly be entertaining, in a very… Lady Gaga way!
