Hotels Near the SSE Hydro

The SSE Hydro is Glasgow’s newest major gig venue. Opened in 2013 with a string of concerts by Rod Stewart, it has already hosted national and international mega music stars, as well as some massive global entertainment and sporting events.

The Hydro arena, with it’s capacity of 13,000, was built to attract the biggest names in live music across the genres. In it’s first year the Hydro saw Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus, Black Sabbath, Bruno Mars, Fleetwood Mac, Arctic Monkeys, the Eagles and Prince through it’s doors. Major events there have included the MTV Europe Music Awards, the MOBO Awards, the Ryder Cup gala concert and Commonwealth Games sports.

There are bars on every level, and lots of takeaway options including fish and chips, burgers, pizza, wok-fried dishes and lots and lots of Kettle Chips.

A 5 minute walk north of the SSE Hydro you will find the trendy and vibrant neighbourhood of Finnieston. Filled to the brim with cool bars, arty hangouts and great restaurants, Finnieston has everything you need for a great night out, pre-gig, post-gig or no gig.

Situated in the vast arena precinct down by the Clyde, the huge, flying saucer-like landmark building is the latest addition to Glasgow’s architectural heritage. The area is even worth a wee visit to see it lit up at night.

Getting There

You can walk into the city centre from the Hydro within 25 minutes, but the nearest train station – Exhibition Centre – is a 2 minute walk away and is connected to the arena precinct by a long covered bridge. Trains run every 10 minutes or so to Glasgow Central.

Car Parking

There is a large multi-storey car park next to the SSE Hydro. It costs £7 for 2-12 hours or £3.50 for 1 hour. The car park is located at 10 Stobcross Road, Glasgow, G3 8YW.
