Hogmanayday!

Hogmanayday!

George Square at the Bells

When: 31st December 2014
Location: George Square

Free

Glasgow’s traditional Hogmanay party in George Square is no longer. Instead, we have fantastic family-friendly events throughout the day on hogmanay.

The new years eve event in 2014 bringing in 2015 will finish at 10pm and feature music and free fun for all the family with kids’ activities including themed crafts and storytelling, highland dancing, ceilidh bands, and traditional Scottish food, drink and entertainment. The aim is to create a family day in George Square rather than a one-off party.

If you are looking for an outside street party to bring in the new year, there is one happening in Ashton lane. Might be more of what you are looking for.

2015 promises to be a great year for Glasgow, so bring it in in style with at George Square with a traditional family celebration with the best in Scottish music, food and drink.

Full details of the George Square Hogmanay party will be released in the coming weeks, sign up to our newsletter to stay up to date with the latest news on what’s happening in Glasgow.

Hotels near George Square

If you aren’t from Glasgow and you are planning on being around for the celebrations at George Square this new years eve or as we say in Glasgow Hogmanay. Then you’ll probably need a hotel, a smart idea would be to book a hotel in the city centre, or even better, a hotel on George Square.

  1. BIG COUNTRY have reformed.

They should headline the George Square Hogmany Party – No Contest !!!!

C’mon Glasgow City Council – make it so !!!!!!

    1. I’m afraid Big Country are playing the ABC on Hogmanay so that rules them out!

Any idea who the George Square headliners will be this year??

      Let the guessing begin!!!!

  2. I would like to hear ‘Skerryvore’ play at Hogmanay 2010 -2011. They’re said to be the ‘Runrig of the 21st century’ and are all very attractive young boys who can play really well. They have had a lot of positive media coverage this year not only from the newspapers but also ‘The Hour Show’ in which they performed on in Febuary. And it wouldn’t be their first performance in George Square as they played at winterfest 2009.

A brilliant Scottish band. I am a huge fan and to hear them in George Square would really be a brilliant start to 2011. SKERRYVORE!

  3. Would just like to say, even although the booze ban put a damper on things (which ended up with me taking the car, as I know they wouldn’t have any booze that I liked, I dont like beer or wine!) the night was indeed fantastic, we had a brilliant time. We, however, spent a whooping £70 on drinks. I bought the tickets with the fact that we could take our own drink, so wont be going next year!!!!

I was looking forward to seeing Deacon Blue and didnt hold out much hope for the other acts, but to my amazement, the Black Hand Gang and Bahookie where amazing, especially Bahookie, I was really impressed!!!! And then less than impressed with Deacon Blue!!!!

I think Glasgow need to get their finger out and start preparing 2010-2011 hogmanay and get us a half decent act, especially if we are to pay £10 a ticket then buy silly wee poxy plastic bottles of beer!!!!!!

  4. Glasgow’s Hogmanay bash was an absolute joke!
Better than Edinburgh they say…….well that wouldnae be hard.
What the hell was the line up all about. Deacon Blue were omly decent act on the rest were mince,,, theres loads of great scottish acts..wit about The Fratelli’s,Paolo Nutini,The View,Simple Minds,Travis,Franz Ferdinand….but who did they get some crap called The Black Hand Gang and Bahookie….Joke!!
Get a grip Glasgow if that’s the best ye can do then don’t bother cause us Glaswegians can have a better time wi a carry out and a stereo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. You are all just a bunch of Whinners, why don’t you all just grow up and enjoy Hogmanay, forget the drink, get happy before you go, you’ll stil enjoy the event.

  12. just sent an email complaining i think its shocking they let us buy our tickets before saying we wernt allowed our own drink in! I got an email saying it started at 7.30pm till 12.30am now I see its 9pm to 1.30am which is it? oh and i love deacon blue lol

  13. You CAN get a refund after all, i complained via email and told them how angry and disappointed I was. Took them a few days to reply and they didn’t really offer any adequate response directly to the cmplaints but did say I could get a refund. Here’s part of the email so they cant give to one and not to everyone…

I do hope that you do decide to attend Glasgow’s Hogmanay, however should you decide against this, please contact Mark McArthur, mark.mcarthur@csglasgow.org who will make arrangements to offer you a refund.

  15. silly, silly organisation. Are they totally daft?! The license for george square license for alcohol is ridiculously easy to obtain. This is a fully fledged scam for more money from us. And how silly of them. Are they so naiive to think that people are just as stupid enough to pay 15 quid to stand in the pissing rain listening to a band i wouldnt pay 15p to see nowadays SOBER? because lets face it, money the issue or no issue, who came up with the idea to share 3 bars with 10000 people!?!
