31st December 2012
Location: George Square, Glasgow
Tickets: This is a FREE Event – no ticket required.
Glasgow’s traditional Hogmanay party in George Square is no longer. Instead, the focus will switch to family-friendly events.
This year’s event will finish at 10pm and feature music, ceilidh dancing and curling on the George Square ice rink. The aim is to create a family day in George Square rather than a one-off party.
Hotels near George Square
If you aren’t from Glasgow and you are planning on being around for Hogmanay celebrations at George Square, then you’ll probably need a hotel. A smart idea would be to book a hotel in the city centre, or even better, a hotel on George Square.
Well Glasgow city council was thinking of coming to George Square this year. Usually Christmas for the kids and familys Hogmanay for the adults. It seems that now you only care about familys. There is no point in going as there will be no bells it’s a pointless celebration like having Christmas on 25th of January. Bring it back next year or else I hope it fails!
Thanks to organisers. I am happy that this year is a family hogmanay in george sq. Good for kids.
I am happy that it is a family hogmanay this year in George Sq. It is a great idea and good for kids as well.
How much is the tickets normally for George square at new year
looks like a change of plans was planning a trip home with wife and friends for homanay but a 10pm finish no late music and with Edinburgh hotels wanting a four night min stay why bother.
Thats not fair at all. No festival. Whats the council in Glasgow saying? New years not worthy of cellebrating? Its an ideal way for us Councillors to save money cause we are going to be in our houses for the bells as we have been for as long as we can remember cause we are boring. We dont care what anone else wants we decide what happens in our city, Seems like perhaps all of the above.
was planning to come to Glasgow for Hogmanay, but
not so sure now! Ceilidh dancing and Ice Skating were on our
list of things to do. the Ceilidh finishes at Ten in George square
and the ice rink is going to be covered in curling stones!!
I need a new plan??!!
Hiya
Will there be fireworks at the street party merchant city ? Can you take drink in with you ?
You can still get tickets for the Merchant Square Party. Because the Council has pulled the plug on George Square, the Merchant Sqare Party will be the biggest and best yet! And it’s INDOORS! You can get tickets from any of the Bars inside Merchant Square.!!
this is typical of the council for years the event was free then it went up to £5 the £10 then need i say more year after year the bands got worse while Edinburgh shines if Edinburgh can wast millions on a tram surly we poor folks in Glasgow should at lease have out one night out per year, get some of our council tax back ,and let people bring drink, that was the biggest ripp of ever last yer aye come spend £15 and be forced to buy our drink at £3 a bottle get a grip council spend the money this just show up Glasgow as the poor city that cant even afford a new year bash
Hello,
I m French and planning to come and spend New Year’s Eve in Glasgow. So i get it right, there is gonna be no special event in Glasgow this year ? Is it still worth coming for Hogmanay according to you ?
Thank you,
Fabien
Hey David i hear ya glasgow city council has totally went down hill theres so much shit they spend there money on…… What did we have last year can’t remember it was that crap to right Edinburgh always have it better Hey we might not have a castle but we are bigger get it sorted Glasgow!!!
Please can you tell me when the tickets for George Square are going on sale and where we can get them. Also is there going to be anything on after 10pm in the Square?
will there be night buses running when the event is
finished?
Hello folks! We are coming to Hogmanay in Glasgow all the way from Machu Pichu, Peru, South America, please someone gives me the heads up, shall we come or shall we go to Edinburgh instead.
I would go to Edinburgh instead, I live near Glasgow and been looking into whats happening but not much! Ceildhi and ice skating till 10 before whole point which is the bells in Scotland. Edinburgh will have fireworks, good bands, DJs and electric atmosphere but also thousands of people, so get tickets now if you want to go. Dependant on weather, the one year I orginised a big get together wi friends in Edinburgh it was cancelled due to high winds but we still managed to party!!! Appreciate your effort to come all the way from South America so have fun and enjoy whatever happens!
i went as a family night out and was on benefits and paid the £15.00 but yes year the tickets have went up i have a disability and do go out all year long except for this event. I’m going with 3 other people but there not willing to pay the£20.00 which is very unfair on my behave as i looked forward to be going this year.
I’m so disappointed that i cant go but because of the rise in prices i won’t be going but would love to as i was looking forward to be going this year.
Hey Went Last Year Was Amazing bought the tickets for this
year 4 Tickets for this year and cant go so if anyone interested in
buying leave a reply cheers
Went last year and the tickets were only £15, think this year is a rip off, especially since you have to pay £3 for a small bottle of beer, and the queues are terrible at the beer stands. Toilets were in a terrible mess, they need to do something about them this year. Does anyone know who is headlining this year?
went past 3years was great but last year was crap for alot of people thinking they could bring there on drink but to be told no i was a bit better prepaired smuggled it in also last years event was not as busy as past 2 years events
would i recomend NO !
reason rip off now 19 pound per ticket and £3 pound per drink no thanks better going to pub or club nice and warm and prices about same
come on glasgow council get a grip £19per ticket mabe charge that but give some drink vouchers with this
Was there last year and teh year b4 top nite but freezing its a lot more controlled if u dont take ur own alcohol cause i seen a fight between a father and son 2008 and didnt c a single altercation 2009 because the sale of alcohol was controlled also it is cheaper than most clubs in the city centre only £3 a drink.
Does anyone know when this years tickets are going to be going on sale? and if u r going to b allowed to take ur own alcohol?
