Glasgow Green Fireworks

Unfortunately the Guy Fawkes (or Bonfire Night) celebrations in Glasgow Green have been cancelled indefinitely by Glasgow council.

Why not check out some of our other Bonfire Night celebrations in other locations.

The return of Bonfire Night has been put on hold. As Glasgow Life say they’re shifting their focus to bringing back the Christmas lights switch-on.

The November celebrations at Glasgow Green have been missed for the few years after they were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. It was hoped the popular spectacle would make a return this year.

When Glasgow Live asked why the Guy Fawkes event on the backburner. A spokesperson for the council’s arts and cultural organisation said: “There is plenty to see and do in Glasgow all year round, especially in the weeks leading up to Christmas”.

“We’re focused on bringing back the Christmas lights switch-on and restoring one of the city’s favourite festive traditions. Which provides a welcome boost to its many fantastic restaurants, bars, shops and hotels.”

As reported on Glasgow Live, the beloved switching on of the lights ceremony is returning.

  1. Let’s hope the adults obey the rules this year and no sparklers it’s not easy trying to tell the children sorry we can’t get some to take in then there’s always a few twats that do typical idiots well here’s looking forward to another fab display as always shame they had to change the date tradition should never die ty celtic for that

  2. WHY IS GLASGOW SPENDING THOUSANDS COMMEMORATING AN ENGLISH HISTORICAL EVENT.
IT WOULD BE MORE APPROPRIATE TO HAVE THE FIREWORKS ON ST ANDREWS DAY

    1. Why are you such a bore Willie? The 5th of November has really nothing do with Guy Fawkes anymore and it’s been that way for a long time. It’s night when we all go outside and let of some fireworks – that’s it.

And the people of Glasgow seem to love it, turning out in their tens of thousands each year despite the weather!

    2. The chap Guy Fawkes was trying to blow up was James VI of Scotland as well. Indeed, Fawkes had denounced James, Scotland and his Scottish entourage to the Court of Philip of Spain in an attempt to gain aid for a general Catholic rebellion in England. Given the religious politics of the time the plots defeat was welcomed generally in Lowland Scotland and in particular in Glasgow which appears to have been a staunchly protestant town at the time. The night has certainly been commerated here for more than 300 years.

  3. I am disabled i have copd and cant walk more than 25 yards .The only way into the green was salt market or green dyke st .i was told kings st high st where the nearest parking places i could never walk that fare THERE IS PLENTY PLACES IN THE GREEN TO LET PEOPLE LIKE ME TO PARK DISABLE PEOPLE THAT IS

  4. Why doesn’t Glasgow Green have a bonfire along with the fireworks which you would expect given that it is Guy Fawkes night? I was in Leeds in 2010 and they had a bonfire in Hyde Park and it was brilliant.

    1. Mike, I haven’t been yet but am going this year. I wondered myself if there would be a bonfire, I suspect it’ll be due to fact there’s alot of children attending and a bonfire maybe not so easily controlled as the fireworks. “wee peeps” running around excited / big fire, etc. Being Scotland…we just wrap up gid!! x

  5. This years display was one of the best yet, very well organised and a great way to celebrate bonfire night! Hopefully it is as good next year!

  6. Great display, could have done with less music but for me a great revisit of my childhood, came back from Ireland to see it well worth the visit.

  7. was a great nite but spoiled by closing part glasgow green its never happened before i wont be going back why was half the park closed and why was radio clyde hidden out the way of the public

  8. Nicely done! It was really astonishing fireworks 🙂 I’ve never seen something like this before even i live in a such a big city in Czech Rep. I can’t just imagine how much cost the event like this..

  9. Just come back from this years fireworks show. was good, but certainly nothing close to 50,000 explosions. closer to 500. with music so loud you couldn’t hear and of the whistles or bangs. the night would have been infinitely better with the music turned down for the show.

  10. how’s the entrance from bridgeton train station? planning on getting the low level to there, is the park entrance via West Brewery going to be open?

  11. Should be a Great Nite , it has been the last couple of years.
Take my young daughter to it.
The only thing to beware are the Young Fekin Idiots running about after the display and in the fairground fighting and throwing rockets indiscriminately.
So if you see someone Booting a Hoodie up the Arse it will probably be me.
