US superstar Kelly Clarkson has announced a five date arena UK tour for October, playing one night in Glasgow’s Braehead Arena.

Kelly Clarkson is also set to release ‘Dark Side’ on June 3 which is the third single to be taken from her top five album ‘Stronger’ out now.

Kelly has already achieved huge success with the release of her fifth studio album.  She performed an incredible secret gig at Borderline in London, turned on the infamous Regent Street Christmas Lights, and single ‘What Doesn’t Kill You’ is still riding high in the airplay charts.

Since bursting onto the music scene 10 years ago after winning American Idol in 2002, Kelly Clarkson has released five studio albums (Thankful, Breakaway, My December, All I Ever Wanted), sold over 20 million albums worldwide, had seven top ten singles in the UK and has sold over 3.5 million units in the UK alone.

She has been awarded 2 Grammy’s, 2 American Music Awards, 2 MTV Awards and 11 Billboard Awards.  Her last album, 2009’s All I Ever Wanted debuted at no. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 and produced the smash singles “My Life Would Suck Without You” (which charted at number one and went platinum in the UK) and “Already Gone.”

Joining Kelly on the arena tour will be one of the biggest bands of 2012: Barbadian four piece band Cover Drive.  Cover Drive have had three top 10 singles in the UK so far including the Caribbean-infused no. 1 single ‘Twilight’ and they have recently released their debut album ‘Bajan Style’.  Amassing a huge following in their native Barbados, the UK and beyond, Cover Drive’s You Tube views are over 14 million and the band have previously supported Rihanna and Dappy on tour.

Bard in the Botanics

bard-in-the-botanics20th June – 28th July 2012

LocationGlasgow Botanic Gardens

Admission:  £15/£10 concession

As has been proven in outdoor festivals in many cultural capitals around the world, Shakespeare plays work very well in the open air.  Glasgow’s beautiful Botanic Gardens provide the perfect backdrop for just such an event.

In these spectacular, historic and fragrant grounds, King Lear, Twelfth Night, Antony and Cleopatra, The Tempest, Much Ado About Nothing and Henry V have been performed to enthralled audiences and critical acclaim.

Glasgow Repertory Company’s annual outdoor Shakespeare festival is the only one of its kind in Scotland.  2012 will see the Bard celebrate their 11th year with an exciting programme of productions.

Bard in the Botanics returns in 2012 with a host of new productions that see some of Shakespeare’s most vivid creations embark on physical and emotional journeys that lead them into a new world and change their lives forever.

This year, the Bard will be performing The Tempest (directed by Jennifer Dick), Romeo & Juliet (directed by Gordon Barr), and As You Like It (directed by Gordon Barr).

  • The Tempest Sometimes merry, sometimes melancholy, Bard in the Botanics’ exciting and theatrical new outdoor production of The Tempest promises magic, music and mystery…
  • Romeo & Juliet This brand new production of Shakespeare’s most famous title retells this enduring story through the eyes of a younger generation betrayed by their elders and struggling to make sense of their emotions in a world they haven’t created.
  • As You Like It Beautifully romantic and enchantingly funny, As You Like It is one of Shakespeare’s most enjoyable comedies and features, in Rosalind, one of drama’s greatest romantic heroines.

Some outdoor performances can involve a lengthy walk through the grounds, but picnic baskets are available to sustain the hungry theatre-goer.

Performances in the main botanic gardens

Performances of both The Tempest and As You Like It start at 7.45pm; performances of Romeo & Juliet begin at 8pm.  There are no performances on Sunday or Monday evenings throughout the festival.

  • 20th June – 7th July:  The Tempest
  • 21st June – 20th July:  Romeo & Juliet
  • 13th – 28th July:  As You Like It
