George Square Observation Wheel

George Square Observation Wheel

Location:  George Square

This festive season, for the first time, Glasgow’s George Square will be host to a giant observation wheel!!!

This Christmas, see Glasgow from a different perspective…  Soaring almost 130 feet/40 metres above George Square in the giant ferris wheel, you’ll have a great view of the Glasgow skyline, day or night.

Passengers enter one of the 30 fully enclosed, climate controlled capsules of the big wheel in George Square.  The capsules allow 360 degree panoramic views of the surrounding area.  You will be gently lifted to a height of almost 40 metres revealing spectacular views of this magnificent city.

Your journey will last approximately 13 minutes and you will have the option of a commentary pointing out local landmarks.

A VIP capsule with DVD, glass floor and champagne on ice is also available.

Opening times

The big wheel in George Square is opened daily (Monday to Sunday) from 10am to 10pm.  It will be closed on the 25th and 26th December.

  1. The price is great id pay a tenner no probs its part of our city what doese folk want everything for nothing pmsl ho ho ho

  2. My fiancé and I got engaged on the Ferris wheel last December!! It was so lovely so see all the lights across George square. Well worth the money!!

  3. I have been on the big wheel. Very nice. I have noticed that not many people are using it. Perhaps if they reduced their prices,,,,a lot more people would go on and enjoy it.

  4. How long is the big wheel going to be there for ? I understand that the square is given over to corporate events from time to time but the square actually belongs to the people of Glasgow and as a Glasgow person I like the square with lots of space and people just chillin out and sitting on benches.. The days that we can actually do this are becoming fewer and fewer and to be honest I don’t see many people using the big wheel .. If you could tell me when the wheel packs up that would be great.. Thanks..

  5. Dave,

get a grip and pay the correct fare like everyone else!

They made a mistake, the guy tried to offer you a way to get around this, but you had to moan about that too!

Get into the spirit if xmas and stop moaning!

  6. Can anyone advise, if you book tickets do you still have to stand in the que to get on or do you get priority?

    Thanks

  7. Thanks for your reply.

I actually travelled by train to George Square from the Central Belt yesterday with my 4yr old daughter with the specific intent of going on the Observation Wheel.

At the entrance to the queue was a small blue price list stating the originally quoted “4 years and under: £1”. However, at the pay station (i.e. after you have queued for some time) was a different price list on the windows which stated prices now on this website, i.e: “4 to 12yrs: £4”

I queried this with the member of staff manning the end of the queue, who wasn’t aware of the discrepency (despite standing right behind this first price list), but who helpfully spoke to those taking the money.

He came back and politely confirmed that the price was indeed 4-12yrs: £4 and NOT 4yrs and under: £1. I showed him the £1 sign and his advice was to “just tell the staff your daughter is a 3yr old” – I don’t know if you have ever got a child’s age wrong in front of them but they will loudly and embarrassingly correct you. Understandably, I didn’t want to be put in that position. What a poor show guys. I should add that it wasn’t just me who had noticed this and many people felt they had been misled.

As I also found it out yesterday morning before I made the trip, it is not possible to book tickets online on the day. The online booking system will not allow this – I looked around the website but saw nothing to that effect so had to travel to Glasgow discountless and not knowing what it would cost me.

Please sort out these issues and at they very least remove or amend the incorrect sign at the entrance to the queue. This whole thing put a damper on what was otherwise a lovely day out.

    1. Hi Dave. We aren’t the organisers of this – our website simply tells people what’s on in Glasgow, when etc. Hopefully now that you have brought the problem to the attention of those running the wheel they will get it sorted out.

Thanks for bringing the discrepancy in prices to our attention though; it’s impossible for us to keep up with every single change that event organisers make to their websites so we’re glad when people correct us – it helps us keep up to date with all the info we provide.

Hope you enjoyed the wheel – we haven’t been on it yet – was it worth it?!?

  8. Poor show guys – This site says one thing, official site says something entirely different. I live miles away and would like to book in advance – I’m not going to as I may end up losing out:

On this website it says children 4 and under are £1 – when you go to buy tickets using the official link (above) there is no ‘4yrs and under’ option. There is only ‘Child (under 3 years) £0.85’, ‘Child (3 to 12 years)’ £3.40

    Very poor. Sort this out.

    1. Hi Dave. The ages for children’s tickets stated on our page were incorrect. That has now been amended.

The prices are correct though. The reason for the difference between the prices stated here and on the official website is because, as stated just below the ticket prices above, you get a 15% discount when you buy online in advance. So the child ticket that costs £1 is £0.85 with a 15% discount.

If you don’t buy in advance and get your tickets at George Square they will be full price tickets.
