The Primary (formerly the Hogshead pub) is a comfortable pub between Woodlands Rd and Gibson St in Glasgows West End. The first thing you’ll notice when you are walking into The Primary is the huge beer garden situated outside the front entrance; a fantastic place to enjoy a beverage or two in the summer months.
Inside, the pub is open plan and airy, and a very welcoming set of staff await. The pub is separated into 3 sections; the sports area has an 8 foot prejector screen on which they show all pay per view matches and major sporting fixtures. There is a dining area (although you can eat anywhere) and a section containing 2 pool tables.
I was in today for lunch before any sporting events started, so the pub was still quite quiet. I had a jacket potato with a vast serving of tuna and sweetcorn, while a friend had the same, but topped with chilli con carne. I tasted both, and both were delicious. The potato was juicy and cooked perfectly, and the toppings extremely tasty. My other compatriot ordered the haddock (he’s a fan of good ol’ fish’n'chips) and he was served up the biggest fish I’ve ever seen, with some marvellous chips to boot.
A delicious pub lunch for 3 people, with drinks, amounted to less than £25. Excellent value!
