After hearing some great reviews of the newly opened family restaurant In Merchant Square , my husband and I decided to go along for lunch with our 4 month old son.
It started well with the friendly staff, but sadly that’s when it started to go downhill. Firstly we asked where the baby change facilities were to be told that despite being a family restaurant there were none.
We then waited for quite some time just for our order to be taken, which on a busy day may have been understandable, but this was a quiet day. We ordered from the lunch menu, which to their credit was very reasonably priced. I ordered the pumpkin soup and quarter pounder and my husband ordered the Cajun mushrooms and chilli.
Again we had to wait for a very long time for our starters to appear and in fact people who gabardines after us had food before us. The pumpkin soup was tasteless and in fact so bad I couldn’t eat it. The mushrooms though were very nice.
After yet another lengthy wait our main courses arrived , the burger was somewhat disappointing and could easily have come from a local fast-food outlet. My husband said that the chilli wa nice enough but nothing to shout about.
Overall the experience was poor. The service was disgraceful, the food poor quality and the lack of facilities for a baby in a family restaurant is a joke. Would I go back? Not any time soon that’s for sure.
