This cheerful and friendly restaurant is situated in the heart of the Merchant City area of Glasgow. Pancho Villa’s is predictably Mexican, with vibrant décor, bright Mexican art and colourful Mexican music.

The restaurant has quite a varied menu with all the usual Mexican favourites, such as nachos, quesadillas, fajitas and enchiladas, along with some lesser known dishes such as rustic lamb and ceviche (a raw but marinated fish dish). Many of the ‘traditional’ Mexican dishes are available with chicken, shrimp, beef or vegetables/beans. This means that there is a decent selection for the vegetarians out there, both in starters and main courses. I have been to the restaurant several times; with my boyfriend, with a small group of friends and with my (rather large) family. Only once have I had issue with the food; I ordered the bean enchiladas, which turned out to be quite soggy. Every other time I have been the food has been nice (if a little ‘under-spicy’ for my taste).
I have read variable reviews about Pancho Villa online. Most often, the complaint seems to be about the service received. On occasion the service has been a little slow (particularly at weekends when the restaurant is busy), but in my experience the service has never been bad.
The food isn’t fancy and isn’t the most traditional Mexican cuisine I’ve ever had, but is reasonably priced and tastes good. The lunch menu is especially good value, and tasty to boot. Lunch is around £10 per person, and a meal is roughly £20 per person for two courses and a drink. With its fun night out atmosphere, Pancho Villa is often busy, and seems to be particularly popular at weekends and holidays. I would advise that you book in advance if you want to get a table at these times.
