My favourite Italian restaurant in Glasgow has to be Mimmo’s Bistro. I stumbled upon it one evening whilst wandering along Ashton Lane looking for somewhere to dine. I could almost have missed it due to its humble residence, tucked away on the lane but I am so glad I discovered it. Upon entering, we were warmly greeted by the waiting staff, who went out of their way to make us feel welcome and treated us to plenty of banter throughout the evening. We dined by candlelight in this lovely little bistro, with red chequered tablecloths that put me in mind of Lady and the Tramp.
The great thing about Mimmo’s is that, despite its prime location in the sometimes pretentious west end, it remains humble and homely, whilst serving up deliciously good old fashioned Italian food. The dishes are tasty and the portions are very generous indeed. After my visit I have returned again and again, to be delighted by the fact that they serve up a two course lunch menu for only £5.95, which is outstanding value with the same consistently good food as expected. This thrifty lunch menu has some tasty choices including good minestrone soup, lasagne and my favourite: pesto mushroom crostini bread.
I really can’t recommend this place highly enough. If you’re after some really tasty Italian grub, in a cosy environment, surrounded by warm hospitality and banter, then this is the place to be.
Love this wee restaurant – it is very cosy and excellant service, very welcoming and friendly. More to the point the food is very good and the wine delicous!! We usually go for the pre theatre and it offers excellant value for money.
Had a great lunch in this small Italian restaurant, which I will definitely return to. Quality, portions, price and friendliness make this place a winner. What more can you ask for?
