The first and only authentic south Indian restaurant in Glasgow, Dakhin offers its diners delicious, flavoursome and genuine southern Indian food.
Dakhin restaurant in Glasgow is sister restaurant to the brilliant Dhabba North Indian restaurant just around the corner. But in Dakhin, authentic south Indian cuisine is the focus, and differs significantly from any other Indian restaurant in Glasgow. Dakhin is upstairs from the hustle and bustle of Glasgow’s Merchant City, and with just a small door entranceway would be very easily missed. But those who do venture upstairs will find a spacious, atmospheric and elegant dining area, with friendly faces waiting to provide magnificent service. The staff are very attentive and are always willing to help with any questions about the menu for those who are used to the standard Indian restaurant.
The food in Dakhin is very different from that served in your average Indian restaurant, demonstrating the unique and wonderful cuisine of south India. The dishes are generally milder and less creamy, and the menu features south Indian favourite and house specialty: dosas. These are delicious, thin and slightly crispy crepes, made with rice and lentils. The dosas are great for those on a gluten free diet and can be stuffed full of vegetables, chicken or lamb, spices and beautiful coconut chutney, or they can simply be eaten plain with your meal. There is also a wealth of enticing fish and seafood dishes, as well as a good choice of lamb curries and an excellent choice of vegetarian dishes. Try the coconut rice with your curry; it really is divine.
There is a good selection of Indian sweets, too. I was taken to the Dakhin for my birthday last week. Due to their friendly service the waiters found out, and brought out a little individual pudding with a candle in it. It was lovely; a very nice touch.
Dakhin will provide a great night out for any occasion, or just for a quick lunch or easy dinner. Also, the three-course thali lunch deal and the pre-theatre offer are a steal.
Went to Dakhin on saturday night for my husbands birthday. Utterly fantastic restaurant. Food was amazing. We loved it and will definitely be back for more.
