As the name suggests, China Buffet King restaurants are all buffet style. You are seated at a table, order your drinks and then head on up to the buffet to ‘fill yer boots’.

China Buffet King is a definite favourite with my kids, mainly because it’s the only time they can choose to entirely avoid any form of vegetable even touching their plate.
The food in the West Nile St China Buffet King is usually of a pretty good standard, definitely higher than that in the other 2 city centre restaurants. To begin your meal, there are normally several chinese soups available. If the chicken noodle or thick chicken and sweetcorn varieties don’t tickle your fancy, you can skip those, and instead head straight for the impressive array of appetisers. Of these, the spare ribs are definitely my favourite; they are big, the meat is tender and is coated in a mild barbecue sauce. Salt and pepper chicken wings are also rather delicious, but many other items are available, including some of the usual suspects such as prawn toast and spring rolls.
The main course selections are also quite diverse. These include lemon chicken, beef/mushrooms in black bean sauce, salt and chilli shrimp/chicken comes in a tempura-style batter. There are also some items on the buffet cart that you wouldn’t expect to see; the mussels always go down a treat. It is definitely worth getting in on the action for some rice or various noodle options (of which the chow mein is a personal favourite) just after their trays have been replenished; they are much better when they’re fresh. There are also some European favourites on offer, including mini-pizzas, steak pie, chips and macaroni or other pasta, just in case one of your party isn’t into the whole Chinese thing!
The dessert selection is normally pretty good too, with various fruits, cakes and gateau, ice cream (with sauces to drizzle over).
The main downside to CBK is that if it isn’t busy, the food can lie out a bit longer than if they’re really busy. And if they are busy then the drinks orders can sometimes take a little while to get to your table (I always order green tea and it has always come quickly). In any case, it’s just one of those trade-off’s that we’re expected to deal with in life…
Prices vary depending on what time of day it is, ranging from about £5 – £10. Considering you can literally eat as much as you like, in terms of volume at least it’s worth every penny!
The best by far it’s even that good I’m goin with my man n our 2 wee boys for Xmas dinner!
