Deep Purple are British hard rock royalty. Coming to Glasgow’s OVO Hydro on 10th November 2024.

Known for writing one of the catchiest riffs in rock & roll history. Deep Purple are up there with the timeless hard rock greats.

Formed in England in 1968, the band’s early work was a heady affair. With songs such as ‘Hush’, ‘Hey Joe’ and ‘Child In Time’ injecting the era of psychedelia with bassy grooves and shredding guitars. From the 70s onwards Deep Purple came down to earth. Despite retaining some prog-rock sensibilities, cut the freak outs and prioritised kinetic and visceral hard rock. As captured on Deep Purple In Rock (1970) and Fireball (1971) and Machine Head (1973). Alongside Led Zepplin and Black Sabbath, the band were considered part of the “unholy trinity of British hard rock and heavy metal”.

‘Smoke On The Water’ featured on Machine Head. And fifty years later is still one of the famous guitar riffs of all time. Its relative simplicity making it a staple in guitar lessons all around the world. In 2017 the song entered the Grammy Hall of Fame. Just a year after the band were enrolled into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
