Bard in The Botanics is back in summer 2015 with a wonderful line-up of productions in The “Unlikely Wonders” Season including A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Love’s Labours Lost.

As has been proven in outdoor festivals in many cultural capitals around the world, Shakespeare plays work very well in the open air. Glasgow’s beautiful Botanic Gardens provide the perfect backdrop for just such an event.

2015 will see the Bard celebrate their 13th year with an exciting programme of productions in The “Unlikely Wonders” Season. Bard in the Botanics returns this year with Love’s Labours Lost, The Merchant of Venice, Richard III and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

  • Love’s Labours Lost The ultimate battle of the sexes, Love’s Labour’s Lost is by turns romantic, hilarious and unbearably touching and this summer Bard in the Botanics brings Shakespeare’s sparkling comedy to the Scottish professional stage for the first time in almost 50 years in a beautiful new promenade production.
  • The Merchant of Venice A thrilling drama, and one of Shakespeare’s most popular and controversial plays where, in some of his most highly-charged scenes, he dramatises the competing claims of tolerance and intolerance, religious law and civil society, justice and mercy; while in the character of Shylock he created one of the most memorable outsiders in all theatre.
  • Richard III Richard II makes its Bard in the Botanics debut this summer, performed by a company of four actors inside the stunning Kibble Palace Glasshouse. Don’t miss this chance to see Shakespeare’s gripping tale of the waning King and the uncompromising & passionate subject, who rises to take his place.
  • A Midsummer Night’s Dream Helena loves Demetrius loves Hermia loves Lysander. One of the world’s most widely performed plays, and no wonder – it’s about the world’s most popular pastime, falling in love.

Some outdoor performances can involve a lengthy walk through the grounds, but picnic baskets are available to sustain the hungry theatre-goer.
