This fascinating Tall Ship exhibition tells the stories of ship’s cats, from today back to many years ago!
Valued for their ability to adapt to new surroundings, control vermin and most importantly, their companionship, the history of cats onboard ships dates back as far as the Egyptian Nile boats.
Find out about famous feline shipmates such as Simon, ship’s cat aboard HMS Amethyst. Simon was wounded in the bombardment of the ship but soon recovered, returning to his duties.
The exhibition also looks at the early history of cats on ships, superstitions surrounding cats, ship’s cats in film and literature and ship’s cats today.
